A Message from the CITE-Virginia President:

Iris C. Jones

Text Box: CITE-VA welcomes you to our website.  CITE stands for the Consortium of Information and Telecommunications Executives, Inc.  CITE-VA is one of thirteen CITE chapters across the United States with over 3,000 members.

CITE was formed in 1984 when a group of mid-Atlantic African-American managers, representing employees of the former Bell system met to develop immediate and future strategies.  CITE’s desire was to ensure that issues and concerns of African-American and other minority employees were addressed. The issues that were raised focused on equitable treatment, fair working conditions and career advancement.

CITE-VA is a nonprofit organization of African-Americans and other minority employees of Verizon Communications. We provide employee advocacy, issue awareness and professional development within the company. We also serve as a resource for the African-American community at large.

CITE-VA makes a positive impact by providing scholarships, implementing training and development programs, and being actively involved in communities.  In conjunction with our National organization, we host an annual leadership conference.  Within our CITE-VA Scholarship Program, we have given over $100,000 to high school seniors to further their education.

CITE-VA has a passion for youth, education and the community.  We volunteer in the elementary schools in reading to the students and have provided computers to the Headstart Program in Henrico County, Virginia.  We have also gone into the high schools to register those eligible students to vote.

I count it an honor and a privilege to have been elected to serve as the President of CITE-VA for the 2007-2008 calendar years.  I have promised to lead CITE-VA with commitment, honesty and respect.  If you are not a part of this organization, I extend a personal invitation to you to become a part of CITE-VA.  We are always looking for persons with a passion to serve.  I love the verse from the bible, which says, “Give and it shall be given...”  We invite you to be an active part of the CITE-VA Family today!

Iris C. Jones
